Drain & Sewer Cleaning

Drain & Sewer Cleaning is probably the most common application of high pressure water jetting.

This makes sense when you consider that, according to Statista, there are more than 571,424 km (355,066 miles) of sewer pipe in the UK!

This pipework connects to more than 25.6 million homes, taking away their waste to be processed at one of 6,327 sewage treatment plants spread throughout the nation.

It is a marvel of the modern world, which we all depend on.  It is not without its problems however, and requires frequent maintenance to ensure it continues to function correctly - failure leads to inconvenience at best, and can be catastrophic!

Learn more about this fascinating system, problem diagnosis, fault finding and how to safely employ high pressure water jetting equipment to prevent & remove blockages in pipes large and small.

This practical application course covers all of the key subjects necessary for the safe & effective use of high pressure water jetting equipment commonly used for the cleaning and unblocking of below-ground pipework.
It also covers the use of a jetting gun on machines generating up to 4000psi and 16 Imp. Gal/Min (207 bar & 73LPM)*.

The course consists of a morning of theory, delivered in a friendly, interactive and easy to understand way, combining discussion, digital media & examination of equipment - giving candidates plenty of opportunity to ask questions and explore the subject in greater detail.

Using the innovative Clikapad system, we have removed the stress of a traditional, pen & paper "Formal" test, replaced with interactive multiple choice questioning throughout the course.

Subjects covered include:

  • History & Importance of Drainage Systems

  • Evolution of Drain & Sewer Cleaning

  • Suitable Equipment Selection

  • Nozzle Principles & Types

  • Drain Cleaning Accessories

  • Common Drainage Features

  • Drainage Law

  • Surface Water / Foul / Combined Systems

  • Preventative Maintenance vs Reactive Blockage Removal

  • Fault Diagnosis & Resolution

  • Operational Considerations

  • Site Setup

  • Equipment Maintenance & Inspection

  • Safe Working Practices and Procedures

The practical assessment takes place in the afternoon, where candidates have the opportunity to operate the equipment, demonstrate their abilities and receive 1-to-1 coaching.

Candidates will come away with a greater understanding of the industry, equipment & accessories, operational considerations, site setups and the importance of regular maintenance and inspection.
